At long last! Who The Fuck Is Aulus mal Asina The Powerpoint Presentation: The Tumblr Post.
This was a long labor of love, combing over every piece of lore I could find in-game and in the Encyclopedia Eorzea. I initially made this because whenever I mentioned Aulus, I inevitably got met with "who?", so I thought I would have one place that contained all his lore and how it relates to MSQ as a whole.
For ease of access, here is the twitch link. It goes to a clip from 2018 Fanfest where they discuss Aulus. If you listen veeeeery carefully after he says "He's dead", you can hear a faint "Noooooooo!" in the audience. That...was me. I was actually there for that question and let me tell you I've never had so many heads whip around to stare at me all at once.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy and have learned something new about my favorite FFXIV character.
Edit: Coming back since this is gaining a bit of traction to add, if you like what you see here, please check out my friend's FFXIV fangame Indagator , where you can either romance or betray Aulus. It builds off of a lot of the info from above and masterfully expands on it. Mind the tags.

Scion postcards! I’ll have these at Fanfest as part of my Delivery Moogle cosplay. Tell me who your favorite scion is and I’ll give you a postcard from them!
If I’m out of your favorite scion, well, Soroban will always have your back!

I’m just sitting here thinking about the twins and that they’re definitely brilliant and capable but they’re still so young and inexperienced like it’s those little moments you see throughout Stormblood.
Like after the attack on Rhalgr’s Reach Alisaie is trying and failing to crack jokes about her condition and Alphinaud is not having it.
Or when Specula Imperatoris is nearly blown to smithereens and Alisaie has no idea if her brother’s alive and she’s seconds away from a breakdown and even the fugging quest journal points this out and Raubahn has to redirect her energy in order to make sure she doesn’t lose it.
Or when Conrad dies and Alphinaud is shell shocked and can barely speak cause they were trying to resolve things with little bloodshed only to get blown up and then he gets so angry he all but makes a declaration of war until he has to take a moment to collect himself.
They are just little guys fighting in an actual war and their emotions are too big for their tiny bodies and yes they’re prodigies and the age of majority but they’re still children Scoob-

Redemption and Retribution: Female antagonists in Final Fantasy XIV Stormblood
Tumblr media
Spoilers for the Stormblood expansion of Final Fantasy XIV
Have you heard about critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV with a free trial up to level 70 with no restrictions on playtime including the award-winning expansion Heavensward? It also includes bereft of awards and highly polarizing expansion Stormblood, so obviously that’s the one I’m going to talk about.
Stormblood is a story about revolutionary war. The countries of Ala Mhigo (fantasy Middle East) and Doma (fantasy Japan) have suffered for well over a decade under the rule of the Garlean Empire, and the player character’s plan to overcome the superior military might of the Empire is to stage a simultaneous revolt in both east and west and spread the Garlean forces thin enough to make victory possible. As a result the expansion is essentially split into two halves, with each half having their own antagonist to deal with. These antagonists are two women, Fordola in Ala Mhigo and Yotsuyu in Doma. The two of them have similar histories of suffering under occupation and eventually joining the oppressor, and both are also given an attempt at a redemption arc for their numerous war crimes after their defeat. However, their treatment and ultimate fate in the story are starkly different, and in this way they clearly expose underlying gendered biases in how their writers think about Evil Women(TM) and who “deserves” redemption in narratives about trauma and war.
On top of that, FFXIV has some rather notorious translation differences between its localizations (causing confusion as early as 2015), and as a result the way each translation team decided to portray these women shows their opinion on the matter too. The global client of the game contains Japanese, English, German, and French language options. I’ve personally read through Stormblood in both English and German, while for Japanese and French I enlisted help to compare specific scenes.

Holiday Poll: Most Huggable FFXIV Dad
Second poll here because there are some pretty glaring people that I accidentally left off.
ngl, this was harder than the mom one and I seriously considered doing a most punchable or rerunning the worst dad bonus poll I did a while a back since there are a lot of dads in XIV that unambiguously suck (here's looking at you, Varis).
Honorable mentions to Hildibrand Manderville (acting as Gigi's dad in the Heavensward questline), The Crystal Exarch (as Lyna's grandpa), and Chai-Nuzz (who doesn't have dad energy quite the same way Dulia-Chai has mom energy, but is still lovely)

It's fucking bullshit there's not a single rain of blood during Stormblood. That means Stormblood is the only ffxiv release that lies to you.
Like. Final Fantasy XIV Online. Sure was an online game. Sucked shit so they nuked it. So then comes Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The game was rebuilt that realm sure was reborn. Both in the meta and also in the text.
Now Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward. There's like two floating continents we go to the alliance raids were about sky pirates litcherally the expansion that added flight as a mechanic. We sure fucking went Heavensward.
Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers. Your quest is literally shadowbringing. You banish the eternal light and bring back the night. Technically you're the only one really shadowbringing but your friends are helping so they're shadowbringers too.
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker. Hey remember that quest. Yeah that quest. At the literal end of the expansion. Where you're forced to walk. Not run. Not fly. You HAVE to walk to the end. You get a status called endwalker. The quest you get after that is the final quest. Endwalker. They were not fucking subtle about that.
So i find that it's total BULLSHIT that Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood only has a metaphorical storm of fucking blood. "Ooooh a war is kinda like a storm of blood shed" don't come to me with that crap. You're the people who made the flight expansion be named "expansion where you literally go to the sky". Was it too much trouble have ONE scene with red rain? At least a little river of blood? I thought you guys were professionals but apparently i'm dealing with the fucking syrcus CIRCUS here. Unbelievable...
